I seem to remember Gibson being around on the [WELL](http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_WELL) a lifetime ago. He certainly knew the Facebook precursors. I think the "newness" of Facebook is probably its ubiquity, the fact that nearly everyone in the world is either on there or knows someone on there. For a while, it might have appeared that only the elite and a few AIs would be wired together into a global network. Turns out this prediction might have been slightly off.

Yes, this doesn't sound wildly accurate. According to CNN his name is "Cheetah", but Cheeta [sic] was the character's name. And CNN claims that "Cheetah" performed from 1932 to 1934, which Wikipedia says was a chimp called [Jiggs](http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jiggs_\(chimpanzee\)). Who died in 1938.

I was one of those who unsubscribed about a year ago. I was sad to go, but I have the right to avoid asshats and idiots. What I didn't have was the right to tell the asshats and idiots to shut up. So I left, and my world just got a little bit better.

Blog spam is just another type of spam, especially for blogs with mostly non-original content. Bloggers collect flotsam and jetsam from around the web (often from reddit itself), re-host the content on their own blog, add some advertising to the pages, and wait for the money to roll in. Very few people actually make money this way, but it does degrade the overall quality of content on reddit.
