You meet a girl (or guy) and you are really liking her. Suddenly you have a conversation about something and she immediately becomes unattractive to you. What were you talking about and what was her stance?

One said to me that she voted for Obama.

At that point nothing mattered to me. I hate his expanded war in Afghanistan and giving money to bankers.

Let me reiterate: x-on-x crime does not affect the gap between y-on-x and x-on-y crime. When you look at the very cases of black-on-white crime, you're generally not looking at intra-family murder and assault.

Yet, your argument was that because the crime rate for black people is higher the black on white crime would be higher.

err, the point of charging things as a hate crime is because hate crimes are terrorism,

There is no difference between the effect of a normal crime and a hate crime. Hate crime laws are just there to create minorities with "ultra-rights". Whether you kill a person for money or because he is black doesn't really make a difference - the person is still dead.

the legal reasons why hate crimes exist in the first place.

The legal reasons are the same as the reasons for BEE - minorities with more rights. This has in a large part to do with special interests.

Hate crimes aren't about "white reprisals"; they're about charging people for terrorism.

The USA also has terrorism laws. Hate crimes have nothing to do with terrorism. At All.

You know that in many cases those who commit "hate crimes" are earlier victims of black crime who tries to get back some sense of power? In a rational world this would be mitigating factors - not a new type of crime.

Psychiatry's Civil War

m00min 2 points3 points 8 months ago[-]

That is one area of psychiatry's many problems. The problem is that that device (penile plesmograph) is just a fancy blood pressure monitor. They sit it around the di*ck and measure the blood.

They then say that an increased blood flow == sexual arousal.

The problem is that anything that causes an increase in blood flow (e.g. high blood pressure, anger, etc...) is seen as sexual arousal. If you watch any horror movie (e.g. Hostel) that "machine" would show you as aroused.

It is basically as useful as a lie detector.

When a black person-- indeed, any person-- decides to commit a crime more or less randomly, then as a matter of statistics it's more likely that he will target a white person because America has more whites.

Yet, someone does not decide to do crime randomly. The majority of murders and assaults are usually intrafamily. A person will also usually commit a crime in an area that is well-known to him (usually within a few miles of his home).

You should maybe look at race attacks at a black majority city (such as Detriot). When black people are a majority race attacks usually increase.

(I do however agree with you that black people are more violent than white people.)

First of all, Sub-Sarahan Africa really isn't comparable to the US.

It is extremely relevant to the topic at hand (black racism).

That blacks naturally tend to hate white people,

That is the prevailing culture yes. White people are taught from a young age to submit when being rob (the soft target training). Black culture is also extremely cohesive to creating violent criminals (just compare all the rap music which glorifies crime).

Any white reprisals or collective punishment which would at least try to keep black crime in check are vilified by the left. Even the act of questioning the current status quo gets you branded as a racist.

there's a 10.1% chance he'll commit it on a black person. If the black person commits a crime randomly, there's a 90.9% chance he'll commit it on the white person.

You make some wrong assumptions. What you ignore is that black people usually associate with black people, have black family and live in predominantly black neighbourhoods (it is therefore not random choice).

Black people also inflict far more violence onto white people than the opposite (partly because they have a much higher crime rate, partly because they see white people as soft targets).

In most countries where white people are a minority black-on-white crime is still much higher than the opposite (i.e. each year more white people are killed by black people than black people killed by white people).

These are the straight, raw statistics.

Yeah, and they agree mostly with alsoracist's POV. Here is an example:

61.1 percent were white.

20.2 percent were black.

Black on white violent crime is waaay higher and much more violent. Why then are only 20% of those charged with hate crime black people?

If you were ever the victim of black crime, you will notice that they implicitly hate white people and justify almost all of their crimes based on this. Yet nothing is charged as hate crime.

All the material used in producing wealth is actually imported (stolen) from so called poor countries.

Yes. We import (steal) a lot from China. I like to buy (steel) beer in a shop.

with probably parts that have been mined in Congo.

Uhmm... You know that not a lot of things gets mined in the DRC (you aren't specific about which Congo though). And don't come with that whole Coltan BS - Australia is by far the biggest producer.

Whether or not you assume it true or false, it is still an assumption.

The one is actually supported by some evidence.

Let me add this - I'm not upset because they are giving to a religious organization - that has nothing to do with it. I

You say that now. But I think we both know what the real reason for this thread is. It is for the atheists to feel “OMG, chuches are so evil” shit. The real reason is probably that you hate churches (I personally doubt that this story is true, btw).

Most protestant churches have both deacons and elders (not sure if I translate this right). The one group satisfies the spiritual and emotional needs of people (e.g. visiting the sick in hospital or the family in times of bereavement), the other group satisfies the physical needs (collecting money for the church and members). If a family is in any kind of financial need, the deacons and elders are supposed to organise help (both physical and emotional) – nothing is required or asked from the member in need.

South Africa. These are just those that are reported. In the cases here most babies and children survived - but there are a few cases where the baby is killed afterwards or died of internal bleeding. From the article:

a nine-month-old girl gang-raped by six men;

I have seen a ten year old girl that was raped in a hospital (where I worked for a short time). It is incredibly common.

I am one of the biggest supporters of the death penalty out there. A lot of things that is said about the death penalty is false (or doesn't have to be so).

A good example is the expense. A lot of other countries do it on the cheap. As for the deterrent factor - I wouldn't be so quick to dismiss it. There are quite a few studies out there that show a deterrent factor.

I personally believe that the death penalty should be used sparingly and only for well deserved subjects. The publicity should also be better around it.

In my country serial baby-rape murders are extremely common. I am pretty sure that no-one would miss a baby rapist murderer. I for one wouldn’t. Another example is a serial murderer rapist near where I lived (he raped & killed something like 8 minors before he was caught - although no babies). IMHO he should be killed. Another example is robberies where the victims are tortured before they are killed – such factors should also come into play.

Even with doors it is a problem - each time the door is opened the heavy cold air will flow out and warm air will flow in. A much better model is U shaped freezers that keeps the coldy goodness locked in - and you are still free to purchase.

I work in a fusion experiment called Alcator C-Mod.

Woahh… Awesome a Tokomak combined with a flywheel… Probably the coolest things… Are you studying physics?

At full power, the reactor and associated equipment draws on the order of ten megawatts, which is pretty damn close to what the rest of Boston draws.

I am not sure how large Boston is, but wouldn’t it be more? (A Geyser is a lot more than 2kW which means that 5000 geysers are way 10MW. A small bakery oven is easily 20KW, etc…).

PS: Interrogation time. If you are a physics student, what is your take on (1) the ITER and (2) Polywells?

Has anyone had a paper rejected faster than I have?

BBC deletes important story on toxic waste dumping in the Ivory Coast after legal threats, 12 Dec 2009

m00min -2 points-1 points 8 months ago[-]

I do not claim that they are saints (most Swiss companies aren't). Just in this case, it is less clear. They paid another company to treat the waste. That company dumped the waste instead of treating it.

Then they paid 152 million Euros for the Ivory Coast government (because the Ivorian company didn't do its job). And now they are the bad guys. WTF?

It is the Ivorian company that is the bad party in this story.

To be fair, the country contracted an Ivory Coast company to process the waste. This company chose instead to dump it instead of reprocessing it.

So it is actually that companies fault - not Triafigure. They are punished three times for something someone else did.
