Please help me understand why the "perfectly princess tea party" is worth it. by Husherin disney

[–]lookaround123 1 point2 points ago

I just booked dinner at Cinderella's Castle for my trip in August - $254 for the 4 of us. At least we get dinner in the deal.
I looked up the 'Tea Party' and was astounded at what it costs. Maybe you can just have your wife and daughter go. Say it is a special mommy/daughter thing and save your $70. I'm glad my daughters aren't into the tea party thing at all.
I expect the doll is what makes it special/expensive. It sounds like the doll is similar to the American Girl dolls which cost over $100.

Could someone please explain to me what happened here? Is this normal or should I call Vanguard up to see if someone's been messing with my 401K? by TheOuts1derin personalfinance

[–]lookaround123 18 points19 points ago

Your company might have changed the funds that you can be invested in. I have had this happen a few times where they force you to divest your shares of one fund and reinvest in another. This is a big reason why you should not leave money in a 401k after you leave an employer.

Definitely call Vanguard and ask them what's up!

Twilight isn't even in the same class as LoTR. LoTR is a classic with movies to match.

I'm waiting to see the Hunger Games films beat the Twilight series. Katniss rules!!!

FBI & DOJ will investigate the killing of Trayvon Martin by Waffle_Botin politics

[–]lookaround123 1 point2 points ago

No one should have to carry a gun for safety. If someone wants to carry a gun it is on them to have the knowledge of when it is appropriate to use it. If they abuse that privilege, they lose it.
Folks should need licenses to own guns, just like there are licenses to drive cars. Just like with cars, people will ignore the laws, but maybe if Zimmerman had been better educated in just how deadly a weapon he possessed he might had held some restraint in dealing with the situation in front of him.

Look into Amtrak. Less expensive than flying and you can move around the train at will and bring food with you for the trip. I have friends who did this from NYC and thought it was a great option.

Maybe I'm missing something, but how does requiring insurance companies to cover contraceptives = taxpayers paying for birth control? by vtronin politics

[–]lookaround123 3 points4 points ago

If you work somewhere you earn the money to pay for your insurance. It doesn't matter if it comes directly out of your check or not. If you are a student, you are paying for your own insurance, usually a plan that is offered by your university.
Catholic institutions deny students the right to purchase an insurance plan that covers contraceptives. This is what this is all about.

This is what the panel the Sandra Fluke was kept off of was discussing. The panel was about the right of religious institutions to control what type of insurance coverage they can offer their employees and in the case of their students, what THEY CAN PURCHASE.

I'm not fully sure of her situation, but when I was a grad student I bought insurance through the university. We had BC coverage through a program where the pharm companies gave discounted pills to students in exchange for tax breaks. That program ended in 2007 or so.

Do not let up! Here are the companies that advertised on Rush's show yesterday by bckids1208twoin politics

[–]lookaround123 67 points68 points ago

One thing that gets lost in this discussion is that because something is covered by insurance there is a belief that it is free. Most of us earn the money that pays for our insurance. It is part of our compensation from wherever we work. We need to change this perception that it is "given" to us by our employers. Whether you are a media buyer at MTV or a Catholic school teacher you are trading YOUR TALENTS for YOUR COMPENSATION, both monetary and benefits. These benefits belong to you, not your employer. I don't know enough about Sandra Fluke's situation, but I assume SHE is paying for HER INSURANCE as a student at Georgetown or she is being paid to be a TA or some other compensated from the university. She wants to be able to purchase insurance that covers her contraception, something she could do if she attended a non-religious or private university.

15 years ago today, I was told that my mom had died. Watching her walk through the door was the greatest feeling I've ever had. What was your greatest feeling? by Dovienyain AskReddit

Not trivial at all. Not many people find it in them to quit. Please stay away from them. My husband who was never a heavy smoker manages to quit but relapses every few years.

Um... I was, I guess technically still am a Girl Scout leader. One thing we were told was that we could not fundraise for anyone group but Girl Scouts. There were a few exceptions made for Katrina, Haiti and the Japanese tsunamis, but they were specific that we could not raise money for another group.

Girl Scouts try to be both non-denominational and accommodating to religions. If a girl wants to leave god out of the promise and law she can but there are faith based awards too.
