Antimatter Propulsion Engine Redesigned Using CERN's Particle Physics Simulation Toolkit by wintyfreshin science

[–]gx6wxwb 0 points1 point ago

You can't argue with an exponential graph! There's no way that, for example, available resources will run out and cause the graph to level off or plummet.

I feel kind of sorry for Kurzweil to be honest. He's clearly a man who's utterly terrified at the prospect of his own death and is desperately clinging on to any hope he can find of avoiding it.

The article says that antimatter is in short supply and that it's unlikely this could ever be used, but it seems there's actually quite a lot of it about if you know where to look... and if you can come up with a way of harvesting it of course.

Somewhere in south America I think. The footage is from one of the David Attenborough planet earth documentaries.

Different people have different ways of learning. Some are more comfortable with totally abstract concepts while others (including me) find real world examples better because it makes the concept easier to visualise. I find a lot of math incredibly difficult to learn when it's presented in the usual technical way, but when it's presented in a way I can visualise I find it really simple to derive my own abstract mental model from it.

Hope that helps.

TWiT has a great video game show called "game on!" that will only be continued if the show gets 50,000 downloads this week. Can we save this show? by soggitin Games

[–]gx6wxwb -5 points-4 points ago

Most of TWiTs podcasts that I've listened to shill like that (Futures in Biotech is pretty good and doesn't seem to do it, thankfully). The main TWiT show (the couple of times I listened to it) had advertising masquerading as features in the show, which is pretty sleazy and it makes you wonder if anything that's said on the show at all is a real opinion or one that's been paid for.

I watched an episode of The Guild once. Felicia Day only seemed to be able to do two emotions, frustration and exasperation, both of which looked pretty much the same.

Plastic-eating fungi found in Amazon by b0b0tikenin science

[–]gx6wxwb 20 points21 points ago

The article mentioned they've isolated the enzyme that the fungus uses to break down plastic. Can they manufacture and use that on plastic without introducing the fungus itself?
