Student forgotten in cell by DEA files $20 million torture lawsuit. by GonzoVeritasin politics

[–]genericuser1289 -3 points-2 points ago

There are two things which you will notice in the response to this which is why governments around the world do not fear the people.

  1. Claiming that this person should get X amount of money. It's taxpayer money! The very people claiming that this person should get X amount of money are the ones who will be paying X amount of money. Not the DEA agents, not the politicians, not the judges, YOU. Why do YOU think that YOU should pay for this?

  2. Claiming that XYZ people should be fired, imprisoned, or otherwise punished for this. This is exactly how nothing ever gets resolved. When the government does something wrong they offer up some individuals and claim they were responsible and that removing them will fix everything. The truth of the matter is that it's the culture of the government itself that is responsible for what happened. Offering up person X, Y, and Z as a sacrifice protects the system itself from having to change.

You think you've left a system of control that needs you for its survival but ultimately realize in the end that its a symbiotic relationship required for mutual survival?

Reddit, what is the problem with Wind Farms? I'm visiting a town in NZ at the moment and they line the hills overlooking the town and are amazing, why are there not more of these? (pics inside) by H00dedin AskReddit

[–]genericuser1289 0 points1 point ago*

I just explained how they prevent it, they brake the wind turbine in low wind conditions. Feel free to go read up on the subject, that is exactly how industrial scale wind turbines work. They will not turn in low wind conditions because it's not enough to overcome the force exerted on the turbines by the grid. This is simply a reality of what happens when you connect a generator up to the electric grid. It becomes a motor until you turn it with enough force to make it a generator instead.

Now it may be possible to prevent that but I'm guessing engineers looked at the potential energy gains from lower wind conditions and compared it to the additional cost of hardware and maintenance to prevent this condition and decided it's not worth it.

I'm not trying to defend coal power, I'm just explaining the reality of the situation. Obviously it's the tragedy of the commons at play here.

I'm not talking about not being a part of a culture that expects monogamy. I'm saying that in some places cheating is like, "Yeah, I fucked around a bit with my secretary.. sorry." It's not a relationship ending situation like it is in other places.

Yes, but it's also a matter of enough wind which can actually be surprisingly high. You might think, "Why not just let the turbines spin in any amount of wind?" The problem is they are tied directly into the grid and without enough wind the grid will actually turn the generator into an electric motor that will draw power to spin the turbines. If they aren't past this "generation" point in terms of wind energy they are braked by computer control systems.

That power they produce is instantly used up by the grid. You would need an INCREDIBLE amount of wind turbines to power the grid reliably and batteries are not cheap. It comes down to basic economics. It's cheaper to burn coal than anything else and that is why coal power plants dominate. Cost per watt.

All I offer is the truth. Personally I think people see "cheating" as entirely too serious. It really is a cultural thing that varies quite a bit. Many countries consider affairs to be almost so common that it's accepted it's gonna happen occasionally.

Pretty confused at the moment, not sure if school is the place for me. by cunt_of_chaosin AskReddit

Find a way to take a test to get your diploma instead. It's as good as graduating. I tested out of high school at 16, no regrets. My only advice is definitely get something saying you either graduated or have the equivalent of graduating and REMEMBER you're still a stupid kid, try not to be too stupid, and you'll be at your stupidest when you think you're being smart. Take that for what it's worth.

I cheated on my girlfriend of 10 years, cheated on her multiple times over about 8 of those years. I then decided to stop, came clean, she forgave me and I haven't done anything since and have no intention to.

To be honest.. I'd say "no" we don't really change. :) There is still a part of me that would cheat, I just have no intentions at this moment. What can I say, players gonna play.

Reddit, what's going to happen in the next few decades when kids raised with Facebook end up in politics? by liahin AskReddit

[–]genericuser1289 0 points1 point ago

Does it really matter? All politics are already a sham. This election is basically coming down to, "Well, I don't like the current guy.. so I want to vote for someone else.. looks like the only other choice is some ultra rich guy, otherwise I'm wasting my vote." This goes back and forth an infinite number of times with the level of acceptability behind "I'm rich therefore I should lead" increasing each time.

Also, most people who have any political or "power" ambitions aren't stupid enough to be posting character damaging information online. Believe it or not there is a lot of people who don't Facebook or otherwise connect their personal lives to the internet.
