Does anyone know where I could purchase some exotic meats in the Dallas area? by mavrick1987in Dallas

[–]drewc34 4 points5 points ago

Bolsa Mercado, in Oak Cliff, opened up recently, and they have exotic meats. I don't eat meat, so I didn't pay much attention, but I saw venison, rabbit, bison, and maybe quail. I'd call before going.

DAE remember when yahoo.com went black in 1996 to protest a technology bill endorsed by a Democratic president? I'm thrilled that I'm seeing it again... by drewc34in politics

[–]drewc34[S] 0 points1 point ago

One of my earliest Internet memories was the day that numerous sites went black to protest the CDA. This made me learn about the CDA, and ever since I've kept up with technology legislation and am proud to see what reddit is doing. The black-out in 1996 got me interested, and it got me involved. I hope that this one inspires others as well.

Also, I like that yahoo warned its users that the telecom bill was 300kb in size.

Is part of Congress's problem connected to how many citizens each Representative represents? 700,000 per Rep means that even a large group of constituents struggle to be heard. by drewc34in politics

What if we increased the size of Congress by 10 times, giving us around 4,000 congressmen? I'd think that lobbying would get tougher since there would be so many more votes to influence.

It's all relative, I guess. Now I'm a trial lawyer for an insurance company, and I really miss the tech-support days.

Tech support for a dial-up ISP in 1998. It was basically tutoring my customers on how to use Windows 95 and what the Internet is.

I'm 32 and went on a lunch date on Saturday with a 22 year old accountant. She asked about my Halloween costume, and I said "Marty McFly". She asked who that was. I said, "Back to the Future". "Oh, I've heard of that. Is it good? It was a little before my time." I felt old.

Farmer's Market Question by boomhatin Dallas

I lived across the street from the farmers market until recently, and this is a very good description of what's available when. The local producers are in a separate shed from the importers.

Looking for some cheap camping not too far outside of Dallas, any suggestions? by highchazin Dallas

Mineral Wells State Park is beautiful. It's probably an hour and a half from Garland. It's like the hill country. If you're interested in some amateur rock climbing, they've got plenty to tackle. They have a lake with decent fishing, though no disc golf.

The tallest building in Dallas is the Bank of America building. Why is that not the site of protests?

There's a huge apartment complex in north-central Dallas called The Village. It's great for 20-somethings. I lived there in my 20's and recommend it. Lots of pools, a bar, tons of activities, cheap rent, lots of stuff nearby.

I have my dad's '59 Mantle that he got as a kid in '59. It's now in poor condition, but it's been his and then mine for over 60 years now and I'm glad I have it. Personally, my favorite card is a George Brett rookie. He was my favorite hitter in the 80's.

Has anyone ever actually seen Cheaters film somewhere? by Ricktron3030in Dallas

I have. Outside of Hattie's in Bishop Arts District last spring. I exited a shop across the street and saw a group of people watching another group of people that had cameras and lights following them. I asked the people near me what was going on, and they said, "Cheaters!" I got closer and saw the Cheaters van with the camera crew filming some folks being held back and yelling at each other.

The Kessler is a beautiful, intimate venue with great acoustics and was a movie theater before WWII.

Best photogenic spots of Dallas skyline? by exponentoryin Dallas

I took this pic a couple of weeks ago on the Sylvan bridge at the Trinity river. Most of the bridges that cross the Trinity (Beckley, Sylvan, Zang) give good opportunities for skyline photos. Also, where Hampton crosses 30 is a great spot as well.

I was friends with plenty of girls in high school, but that's all I ever was with them. From his point of view, he may have thought that the girls considered me to be charming, whereas from my point of view, I thought they considered me to be a safe, non-threatening friend. If he and I meet for a beer and anything uncivil happens, I'll just get up and leave.
