It's an early pressing of 500 or so. A buddy of mine went to high school with a couple of guys and hooked me up with a copy.

I bought these cheap hooks to support it on the bottom and then used the lip of a nail to hold it up on top. Not the best method but there's no damage to the sleeves or anything.

Never really got the privileged, wealthy impression from her. From what I found her recipes tend to use pretty standard ingredients. Nothing too extravagant.

That being said, I'm not really a fan of her recipes. I'll give her credit in that they're mostly pretty unique and put different ingredients to use in interesting ways (particularly the pasta dishes), but they all tend to be very flat or overly rich (this woman has a love affair with butter and heavy cream). I'd still recommend checking them out but think of them more as jumping-off points for you to expand upon than by-the-book recipes.

Fuck everything about this. This entire fucking publicity stunt was founded on nothing more than Steve Dahl's (the Chicago DJ who organized all this) and Middle America's own racist, homophobic, chauvinistic sentiments towards a market dominated by black, gay and/or female artists.

Just take a look at the photos. How many minorities do you see in any of them? How many women do you see other than the handful who are seemingly there only to accompany another male? More importantly what do you think would have happened to a homosexual in a crowd of 90,000 straight, white, middle class, angry, drunk males?

Steve Dahl was nothing more than a Howard Stern shock-jock type and the fact that he still defends the event to this day, and moreover denies any homophobic sentiments behind it, is fucking appalling. It's easy to use the excuse that 'disco sucks', because granted, the quality of it really did decline by the late-70s. But to go on air and bash disco for being 'unnatural', 'artificial', 'indistinguishable', 'degenerate', 'tasteless', 'lacking in direction' -- all of which just happened to be terms used by conservatives to describe homosexuals at the time -- is an entirely different story.

People reminisce about this like it was the greatest thing to happen to rock since the Beatles, but no one seems to remember the little details. Like the fact that Dahl entered the field wearing army fatigues and a helmet, playing the role of the knowledgeable and charismatic leader. Or like the news reports that came out the following day, mirroring the event with fascist jazz burnings that took place in the 30s and 40s (another genre heavily associated with minorities). Or how about the 'Disco Ducks Klan' showing up with white sheets and hoods, so outrageous to the point where Comiskey Park officials had to tell them to tone it down a bit.

So like I said... Fuck everything about this.

This. I've been trying to tell other ents this for years. The 'redness relief' ingredient in eyedrops are like any other medicine -- using it too frequently will make your body build up an immunity to it over time.

Artificial tears work just as well, are plenty cheaper, and don't contain the tetrahydralazine that fucks up your eyes in the future.

Too lazy to look up a source but I've been told the same thing by several opthamologists. Redness relief eyedrops such as these are technically medicinal and contain an ingredient called tetrahydralazine. What that does is constrict blood cells to make redness in your eyes less severe (more of a cosmetic thing than actual 'relief'), while the liquid itself lubricates the actual eyeball to relieve dryness and irritation. However like any other medicine using it too frequently will allow your body to build up an immunity to it, making it less effective over time.

The good news is there are other alternatives, like artificial tears, that work just as well at handling dryness and irritation. They don't take effect as immediately in terms of getting rid of redness but if you apply them mid-smoke sesh you should be just fine. The best part is generic store-brand artificial tears from a place like CVS are much, much cheaper than eyedrops like these (meaning more money for trees).

The majority of places in the country still use Turkish toilets (squat toilets) instead of Western ones so it's sort of a necessity to carry toilet paper with you... just in case.

Story goes that during the 9/11 attacks, Basinski just sat on his roof in Brooklyn with d|p 1 blaring over loudspeakers while the towers collapsed. Sounds a little too melodramatic to be true but the thought of that combo is still pretty chilling.

Any Jimmy Tamborello projects for that matter, particularly Postal Service and Dntel. Also Fennesz, Greg Davis, Jim O'Rourke, etc. There's something about glitchy electronics that just sound better on wax.

Your setup is what's most important. Although heavier vinyl (180gr - 200gr) is definitely equated with better sound quality all around, especially when it comes to your high highs (get much less of a 'tinny' sound with those).

Most new releases are pressed on 180gr (I think) so you're in luck if you've been keeping up with the times.

Yeah apparently he was influenced by this study of Alzheimer's patients being able to recall songs from their youth.

Also, speaking of weird shit, apparently the Disintegration Loops are going to be performed live for the 10th anniversary of 9/11...

This is a fascinating, fascinating project.

There's an ambient recording artist named James Leyland Kirby (records as The Caretaker) who does similar work. He just put out an incredible album this year of samples/loops ripped from old 78s which were then filtered through some minimal effects. Really impressive stuff.

Here's a review and a mediafire link if you're interested.
