Congrats to Bayern for pulling off a Vizekusen: Finishing second in Bundesliga, German Cup and Champions League by db82in soccer

All they had to do was to beat unterhaching. 0:2, own goal ballack.

Oh man. Not so unlikely for some Bayern players to get the very same treatment this year, only replace World Cup with Euro Cup.

In 2002, Leverkusen finished close second in the Bundesliga as well as the CL. Ballack also came in second at the World Cup, the poor bastard.

AMATEUR HOUR: If you could add one stupid rule to the game, what would it be? by GodSamnitin soccer

Good question. I think it's a very old tradition. And also, if you're in second grade, maybe having coins in your pocket is actually unusual.

I never did that at school (I'm German). The two captains first decide by some fair means who gets to choose first (usually choosing a random distance, then each putting one foot directly before the other until one captain has his foot above the other's), then they chose players taking turns.

Mario Gomez, one of the most efficient goalscorers in Champions League history by ImmanuelXavierin soccer

Totally agree, big Klose-fan here, though I think Gomez has gotten better with joining build-up play. I have seen some decent scenes lately. He still has some time to improve in that area. But how Klose is able to connect with Özil (see that one goal against The Netherlands) is currently out of his reach in my opinion.

Third of second league against third-to-last in first league. Two matches, actually, one in each stadium.

What is the most interesting historical book that you have ever read? by katieyain history

I simply skipped, and the rest of the book was amazing. Heck, how the Vikings on Greenland died out is a great tale. Try it, the Montana chapter is not necessary at all.

John Terry or Rio Ferdinand for England? Neither by sebsb123in soccer

The problem is that THE TOURNAMENT STARTS NEXT MONTH. You should have more practice with your CB pairing in the national squad than just the very few last friendlies and days together. Who has played the last half year, that's very relevant, ask Joachim Loew.

But I gotta say, the pre-tournament entertainment of the english squad does trump the german one :)

I read Collapse and would it also put in here. A great angle of observation. But I wonder how many readers he has lost in his first chapter about Montana, which is loooooong, and Montana is not as interesting as Japan or the Easter Islands.
