Or just a random stain on the ground, or maybe he poured some water over his head to cool off.

It should serve as inspiration. It wouldn't be too hard to design a dress more imaginative than the one shown in the original link for this thread.

Population Density Overlaid with Indian Railways Lines [1500 x 1555] by eddieshackin MapPorn

[–]Banko 0 points1 point ago

The railways were first built by the British to ferry goods from producing areas to ports, so they would have been built in existing producing (i.e. populated) areas.

I guess it's lower population density than white...? (density going from high to low as black --> red --> pink --> white --> green). Although white is also used to show high mountains and railways.

It's on the cover of the map, I guess the map itself retains the real names.

Top 10 taboo topics about induced pluripotent stem cells by biobonniein biology

[–]Banko 2 points3 points ago

While this post is about iPS cells, some of the issues presented are relevant to biological research in general, and not particular to iPS cells. Especially, the variability in results obtained between cell lines and labs, and how well cell culture experiments translate to human biology and disease.

Which big difference between the USA and Europe is the most difficult to understand or accept for you ? by yeahitwasmein AskReddit

But American toilet use loads of water to flush and it makes a very fun whirlpool effect. You don't get that with UK toilets!

I used to think the same until I discovered some of the gore that pops up in some of the more "select" subreddits.

Now, I realize that the "killing" you see on TV and in movies is in fact a very tame representation of the reality. There was no actual gore in films like "Saving Private Ryan", yet in reality there must have been people all over the place screaming with half their face shot off, etc.

The level of violence shown on TV is equivalent to reality as showing people kissing and then fading away is to real sex.

Are you trolling? Having lived in both US and several European countries, I can tell you that Europe is much more culturally varied than the US, by a big margin. I have no idea how you could have come up the idea that the Europe was more homogenous than the US.

By the way, I have lived in several US states and in several European countries.

Dolphins Die of Drug Overdose after Swiss Rave by threetrappedtigersin worldnews

How much buprenorphine would it take to do this? The concentration must be pretty low when diluted into the entire aquarium, but then again, the dolphins were literally swimming in the stuff...

Can someone please explain to me the benefits of affordable housing / social renting in London and why we have so many of them? by tonynzin london

[–]Banko 2 points3 points ago

A lot of what makes an area "nice" is the amenities it provides; another part is social status.

You could get a very nice house 1 hour out of London for a small fraction of the price of an equivalent one in central London, but you would like to live centrally. So you are prepared to pay more to live in central London, as long as the amenities and environment are good (so you prefer Kensington to Whitechapel).

Provision of the amenities you like in Kensington is done by these "scrotes" you refer to, and they can do that at a lower cost if they live nearby; since if they are on a low income, their commute, etc would increase their own costs, and they might then prefer to work closer to where they can afford to live.

You should also remember that, historically, in London the "scrotes" you refer to, who would provide services to enlightened and well-earning gentlefolk such as yourself would actually live in your house. Yes, yes indeed, they would see you in the morning scratching your tits or balls, and make you tea and toast, just they way you like it.

Maybe it's better that nowadays they live just down the road?

[–]Banko 5 points6 points ago

One of the prime benefits of social housing (apart from subsidizing the poor) is that it prevents excessive "ghetto-ization", so the cleaner who wipes the floor of a hedge-fund manger living in Kensington, or the chap running the nearby corner shop, might actually live just up the road.
