Note for Comic 2: It would be a spoiler to explain why, but Re “The Hoff”: my American mind thinks David Hasselhoff, a horrifying enough thought. But my Capetonian sweetie informs me that in context this mean Steve Hofmeyer, a pretty horrifying local example of mediocre talent trying to make up for it by working a niche market and trying to attach himself to causes, from what I can gather. Really pretty much the polar opposite of Francois here, frontman of the first band to put Afrikaans on the mainstream rock radio (there's a great movie, best rock triumph story no one has ever heard of, too cool to believe if it were fictional http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JaqhoQg7zX4 ).
